Back to the Beginning...

For a while now I've been in a blogging rut, you could probably tell due to the lack of blog posts. After going through every emotion possible, I've finally had a creative epiphany. I'm going back to the beginning. When I first started my blog, the main focus was on my personal thoughts, my personal tastes, my personal experiences, and somewhere down the line I've felt like my blog has lost it's sparkle, and has become quite generic. So I've decide to go back to the beginning and try again to relight my blogging fire. From now on you can expect more posts from a personal perspective, and at times you may not agree with me, but I think different views of opinions and debates are healthy and help keep the interest alive. I'm also going to try and set up a blogging schedule, so I can become more consistent and not leave you hanging for long periods of time. Now I can't promise that I'll stick to it, but I'm willing to try and get back into the groove of blogging.

I also want to thank you once again, for sticking by me and supporting me even when I haven't been the best blogger. You mean so much to me and I can't thank you enough for supporting my little blog.

So buckle up and enjoy the ride, because even though I don't know where this may lead, at least we can enjoy the ride together. :)

Lot's of love,

LaCara

Um...who are you again?

Hey lovelies,

Long time, no blog! *dodges the rotten fruit & veg pelting*

Me!
*Excuse the curly/wurly edges, my straightner couldn't catch my baby hairs!

First, allow me to apologise for disappearing without a word! It's been a whirlwind these past couple of months, and I've only just found the time to catch my breath! Let me catch you up to speed! In August I became the official social media coordinator for Evolve Magazine, and that is where majority of my time went towards. I should have given you a formal heads up, but things got so busy that I just became completely out of touch with my blog and my other social networking platforms.

I took an unofficial (much needed) break from the blogosphere. I know many of you have been wondering where I disappeared to (thanks for the messages & e-mails!), so now you officially know. For those who've been asking, yes, I'm ready to get back on the blogging wagon and I already have some posts ready to put out later this week (I hope you like them!).  In the mean time, I've been catching up on your lovely blogs, and discovering new ones too! Looks like I have a lot to catch up on. And the next time I need a break, I'll definitely let you know instead of being 'gone with the wind'! ;)

As always, thank you so much for your unconditional support and I hope to return bigger and better next year!

Much love,

L

Hello Autumn....OOTD

Hello dolls!

October & Autumn, are two of my favorite things, I love how the leaves changes color, I love how the crisp morning air welcomes me in the morning, and I love how I get to wear layers! Now granted this outfit, isn't the most "exciting", but a lot of you do want me to start posting more OOTD's, so I thought why not begin today. :)

This outfit is pretty casual, and I decided to wear my floral dress (are florals still "in" lmao?) with my blue waterfall cardigan (I know, I've worn it before, but I love it!), it was slightly chilly, so today was perfect for layers.

Excuse the quality of the pictures, I still haven't brought a digital camera (anyone want to buy me one ;P) and also excuse my cheesy smile, I still need to work on my face poses lmao!

P.S. Please, please, please vote on my poll and tell me what you want me to write about!

And for your listening pleasure, Floetry (I'm so sad they broke up!) ft Common : SupaStar.
I love this song, I was listening to it all day....

8 Questions Tag!

The beautiful Lu'Anne of "Weesha's World" tagged me (thank you lovely!), so on with the questions! 8 Questions Tag :

The Rules : The rules are to answer 8 questions and then make up 8 new ones and to tag 8 others!

1. What would you ask for if a genie granted you 3 wishes?
I would ask to win the lottery, live a happy life, and to remain humble.

2. What are 3 things you love the most about yourself?
I love my eyes. I think although they're quite small, they are my best features. I love the color of them and they are a deep brown and crystal clear, people say I have pretty eyes, well I have to agree lmao. I love my cheeks (the ones on my face lmao), I receive so many compliments on them, I think I have great cheekbones, my drama teacher would always talk about them, which made me feel special lol. Lastly but certainly not least, are my boobs, I get a lot of comments on them too lmao, they make feel feminine, and sexy.

3. Who is your style icon?
My Grandma, she has always been fashionable, even now in her "Golden Years". She still gets her hair done, and she leaves the house looking like a true fashionista. I think I get my love for fashion from her, I remember playing in her walk in closet when I was 2-3 years old. She had such a decadent room, everything in her room was pretty much designer brand, so she is my style icon. Hopefully one day I'll be able to have a walk in closet lmao.

4. Do you have a favorite quote or any words of wisdom to share?
"How someone treats you is their karma. How you react is your karma" - I live by this quote, I think you have to be very mature to handle difficult situations, and I have been in plenty of those, and each time I am getting better with dealing with them. If someone treats you badly, cut them off and keep on going, negativity thrives off of negativity, the best way to deal with is to be positive and keep a smile on your face.  "Don't dish out, what you can't take back" - if you're going to judge someone, be prepared to be judged back.

5. When you were a kid, what did you want to become when you grow up?
I wanted to be everything, I wanted to be a doctor, a astronaut, a lawyer (still do), a fashion designer (still do), a news reporter, a teacher etc. I wanted to do it all lmao.

6. 5 years from now, when you look back at this phase in you life, what do you think you'll say?
Hopefully I'll say "Wow, I've come a long way....and life is fabulous!"

7. What kind of music are you into?
I'm into all kinds of music, I love R & B, Dancehall, Bashment, Garage, Pop Techno, Slow Jams, Jazz, Arabic (Nancy Ajram is my favorite), and currently I'm really into traditional Native American music.

8. What is the most important lesson you have learnt in your life so far?
The most important lesson I've learnt is to be grateful and count your blessings. I've been through so much, I've hit rock bottom and had to climb back up only to be knocked down again. However after all I've been through, I reminded myself that "there are people in worst conditions than you LaCara",so just be grateful for the little things, that way bigger and better blessings will come your way.

Here are my questions :

  •  What's your favorite color and why?
  •  Who is your favorite designer?
  •  What is your best feature?
  •  Can you describe your personality?
  •  Where do you find inspiration in regards to fashion?
  •  If you could change one thing in your life right now, what would you change?
  •  If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
  •  What is your favorite quote?

And I tag these fabulous ladies :

30 Letters of Summer - Day 24 The Person Who Gave You Your Favourite Memory

Dear R.A,

You gave me the best memories. You were my first ever puppy love lmao. My favorite and most memorable memory with you, is when you came over to my house in the pouring rain just to talk to me. I remember opening up the door and you was soaking wet, you was literally dripping from head to toe, and I was flabbergasted! So I asked you "What are you doing here!?!" and you said "I was bored, and I needed someone to talk to." that's when we both bursted out laughing. I would've invited you in, but my mama would've kicked my ass into next week. So we sat in the apartment hallway, just talking and messing around. Then you had me walk you home lmao! But I didn't mind, I got to spend more time with you, so we both ended up wet from the rain. That was the most romantic thing that I've ever experinced, and I found it really sweet. It felt like something out of one of those romantic chick flicks, and you made me the happiest girl that day lmao. I wish I told you how I felt about you, but I knew you knew and vice versa. Thinking about it now, we was together without actually being "together", you called me everyday after school half past 3 on the dot, and we would talk til 4 pm. We pretty much was inseperable, I enjoyed our time together, you was my bestfriend and the "love" of my life at that time. The time I spent with you was the best part of my childhood, so I was crushed when I had to move and never got a chance to say goodbye to you. When I came over to England you was on my mind for a good year, I truly missed you. But I'm glad I have memories of you, I cherish them with all my heart. I hope you're well and I wish you the best.

Love,
LaCara

We didn't kiss, but you get my gist lmao! :)

A Mother & her Fat Daughter...

Everyone has been criticised by their mother, some more than others, and at times it can be painful to be judged by the person who is meant to love you unconditionally. I was inspired to write about this, after seeing Lu's post "This must be what Prozac feels like" and the monumental responses.

I've been criticised by my mom on many occasions. She is very outspoken, to the point of being too blunt. I've always been fat, even when I was skinny I was bigger than the average kid. My mom often pokes fun at my size, and although I'm older sometimes it still hurts. It hurts because I feel like I'm not the daughter she could be proud of, sometimes I feel like I let her down because of my size. When I was younger I took it to heart very seriously, I felt like an embrassment to her, and for the longest time I believed that because she did make fun of me. I got teased enough at school, I didn't expect my mom to be one of the "mean kids" at home. But she would always tell me she was joking and how much she loved me, and how beautiful I was. I was conflicted at a early age, I don't think she was aware of the damage she was causing. Now when she points out that I'm "fat" or a "sumo wrestler" etc I shrug it off (depending on my mood). Me and my mom are close, we have our ups & downs, and I know that she loves me, but sometimes I wish she knew that her words are like a slap in the face at times. I wonder does she even see past my size, I am more that just "fat".

While most people would love to have the acceptance of their mother (which I do, I think?), I realise that my self - acceptance is more important than anyone else's. Blogging has helped me in more ways than one, many of the things I've encountered, you all have too, and while I find it sad that so many of us have been ridiculed by our mother's; I'm glad to know you can relate (I'm always finding a silver lining lol).

I'm so glad I started blogging, you all are so genuine and while I haven't met you yet, I feel so connected with you all. You have turned into my support system, you cheer me up when I'm down, and continue to inspire me. Each and every single one of you is beautiful, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm truly blessed, I've found a community that supports me & allows me to express myself freely. Hopefully one day all of us will be able to meet in person, I think that would be alot of fun. :)

God Bless,
Love,
LaCara

Coming out of : The "Blogging" Closet

Blogging has become a passion of mine, it allows me to be “me”. However, I’ve been having inner conflict lately, I want to shout from the roof tops about my blog, but at the same time I’m terrified of doing just that. At the moment I am not surrounded, by positive people and I really don’t anyone negative to have access to my blog. I’ve worked to hard, for all of this to fall apart, which is why I’m hesitant about saying anything about it to anyone. I’ve only told a handful of people, I wish I could tell more, but at this time it isn’t possible. I don’t care what people will say about my blog, it’s just frustrating, because there are so many jealous people around and they don’t want to wish me well, which is why I’m keeping such a tight lid on about my blog. I find it amusing and confusing at the same time, because anyone, and I mean anyone can create a blog…it is free after all, but that aside, if you have something to say or share a blog is a perfect solution. I don’t understand how anyone can feel threatened by me, because I write about fashion and my thoughts. A lot of people I am associated with (especially on fb) are still stuck in that childish mentality, they don’t think outside the box, where as I do. I mean I’ve started getting rid of people on face book, who I no longer speak to and those who I don’t need in my life anymore. It’s a tedious process, but I’m trying to move forward with my life, and I’m trying to get to the next step. I ‘m trying to deal with my inner conflict the best way I can, and that is for me to blog about it.

What I would like to know is, have any of you been through this or something similar? I mean how did you feel when you first started your blog, did you have the support, or was you nervous about saying anything about your blog? How did you overcome it? I would really appreciate your insight!

Love,

30 Letters of Summer : Day 17 - Someone From Your Childhood

Dear J.S.

You was my best friend when we was kids, we were inseparable, and I loved every minute we shared together. You was like my sister, and I really loved playing outside with you and Danny. We became school bus patrols together, and you took it so seriously lol. You always obeyed the rules, which made me look like a rebel lmao. We was always at the swimming pool, having fun and being kids. We never had a argument, we always talked out our disagreements, which I was grateful for! You always came up with games to play, or made games more fun! I thought we would be friends forever, and when I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to you, that broke my heart. I cried for a very long time over that, when I came to the UK I was so lonely, and that made miss you even more. I wished that you’d magically appear right beside me, I thought about you quite often. Then luckily for me, Facebook was created and I found you again. But along with time comes change, and a lot of things has changed since we was little. You have a beautiful baby and you’re Miss Independent now, I truly didn’t think that would happen. We’ve both changed, and we’re getting to know each other all over again. I hope this time we’ll be able to stay in contact for a long time. I wish you nothing but the best, and I can’t wait to see you!

Lots of Love,

30 Letters of Summer : Day 16 - Someone That isn't in Your Country

Dear Sherree and Branden,

I miss you both so much! I was so happy to see you last year! To think you guys live in Germany and I only saw you both once last year =(.
I wish I could spend more time with you both, after all we grew up with each other! My best childhood moments, was when I was spending time with you both, and how we formed our own lil group.
I remember staying up with you Sherree because you never slept! LOL, you were such a night owl, (and you still are), but I didn’t mind it was fun staying up with you. We had our little fights, and you bit me on a numerous of occasions, but I love you all the same lmao! We used to do sing-a-longs with the Backstreet Boys, and we would dance quite often, so we had fun.
Branden you was a little bubba back then, and you was the cutest thing ever! You was so quiet back then, but boy has that changed lol! You’re all grown up now, you’re not the little boy I used to hold and cuddle, I miss that at times! You was definitely closer to Lee, than with me, and I was closer to Sherree than you, but nonetheless I love you both equally!
Seeing you both all grown up, makes me think where has the time has gone, but when we was together it felt like time hadn’t past at all. I hope we’ll see each other this summer, because I think we’d have fun like we used too. You guys are the best cousins ever! I love you both so much, and I wish you both nothing but happiness and success!
Love,
LaCara

30 Letters of Summer : Day 5 - Your Dreams

Dear Dreams,

You’ve haven’t really changed over the years, my main dream is to be successful, and that will never change. I’m trying to aspire to something greater and better for myself, and while I believe in you, it’s also up to God, as it’s in his hands and on his time. You give me the strength to strive and continue on this journey, where it ends I don’t know, but so far although it’s been a challenge I have achieved a lot in a short amount of time, and I hope it continues. I kind of get lost in you, so much that sometimes my mind speeds up to the future that I forget the present, but I’m working on that. Lately I have been taking each day as it comes, and taking it easy, I try and remind myself to take everything in around me and cherish it. Since starting this blog, my dream for it is to be a place where people can find inspiration and give me inspiration. I want it to be a place where people feel welcomed and can talk to me, if that happens, then I know I’ve achieved something. I believe in you because, you are me, and if I can’t believe in my dreams, who will believe in me? You keep me focused and allow me to see the bigger picture, and each day I take a step closer to you. One day all my dreams will come true, and I’ll remember how long it took me to achieve them and how hard I worked for them, so until that day comes, you’ll be on my mind everyday.

Love,

Fat is just a word....

Ever heard "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you"?
Well I used to disagree with that. Growing up as an overweight child, words definitely hurt me, especially the three letter word, "fat". It always felt like a slap in the face every time I heard that word, because apparently being "fat" was bad and undesirable. Now that I'm older I've learnt that, "Fat" is just a word :

Definition of Fat: having an (over)abundance of flesh.

"Fat" doesn't define who we are as a person, nor does it represent who we are, it is just a word. I am no longer hurt by the word, I don't cringe with painful embarrassment and I no longer feel outraged when someone calls me fat, it's a descriptive word, it just describes my appearance and nothing more. My appearance does not define me as a person, my appearance is just the surface of who I am. "Fat" is no longer a bad word to me, I embrace it because I have claimed it back, it's not all the negative things you see and hear in the mainstream media. As I believe in the "Fat Acceptance Movement", I have to accept the word, because I've been haunted long enough by it, it doesn't scare me anymore, and it doesn't affect my mood like it used too. I am comfortable with who I am and my appearance, fat rolls and all lol.

God Bless,

Love,

Letting Go of it all.....

Letting go of the past and hurtful memories is essential to move forward. I was inspired to write this post, because of someone whom I was very close too.

I had met him last year and I didn’t expect anything to happen between us, amazingly we grew quite close and formed a special bond. At that time I also had a “friend” who was trying with all her might to put me off of him, I couldn’t understand it, then it hit me she had feelings for him. If she’d have told me, I would’ve backed off because I thought she was my “friend” she turned out to be the opposite.

We had a petty argument, and she stopped talking to me, and I was fine with that. However I didn’t know how spiteful she could be, she started spreading malicious rumours about me, and unfortunately people started taking sides, there was no need to take sides, but that was their childish mentality. That whole time she dissed me behind my back, I never said a bad word against her. I had nothing to say, nor did I have anything to prove.

As far as I was concerned she no longer existed in my world. The people who I thought were genuine turned out to be fake, and followers. The person who I thought wouldn’t follow the crowd did, he proved he was another mindless follower instead of the leader I thought he was. I was extremely hurt, I truly loved him and apart of me always will. I gave so much of myself, and received little in return from him.

It’s been a year, and I’ve stopped all contact with him and everyone else who got involved. It has a taken a long dark year to get over him, he was my very first love after all. And every time I used to think about school last year, those painful flashbacks would come back and remind of the pain I had felt. I held on to that pain, not because I wanted to feel bad, but because that was all I had left of him. I’ve realised that it wasn’t me who was unworthy, it was him. In order for me to move on, and to embrace the right things for me, I have to let it go, all of it. I can’t hold on to this anymore, its not helping me, and most importantly it is in the past. So I’m letting it go, because I am worthy of so much more than I was given by him. I’m ready to let it go.

So ladies, if you are holding on to any pain, regret, bad memories; let it go. It’s in the past, we can’t change it, we can’t rewind time, the only thing we can do is move forward and think more carefully about the choices we make. When we let go of the past, we make way for the bright future, and those “memories” don’t have a hold on us anymore.

God Bless,
LaCara

My life as a Fat Teenager...

I've always been big. Even at birth I was a wholesome 9lbs and 21 inches. I come from a big family, so I do believe genetics had a role in my "fatness". But it wasn't til I moved to the UK that I realised how "fat" I truly was. I was born and raised in Florida, and at the age of 12 I relocated to England.

When I came over here, I hardly saw big people, and that was very shocking to me, because in America you saw big people everywhere, and it was no problem. I was never bullied in America about my weight, of course I was teased here and there, but I could deal with that. I was very active too, I swam almost every day, I was outside running around playing kickball, so it wasn’t like I was lazy or a couch potato. However my eating habits was a different matter, I was a complete food junkie. I ate to feel good, food was literally my best friend. My relationship with food back then, was completely unhealthy, but at the time it served as comfort, almost like an escape, from what I was facing on a daily basis.

When I started secondary school (Middle School) that’s when the bullying started. Year 7 (6th grade) was hell! People were enthralled by my accent but was repelled by my weight. I wasn’t what people expected of a “fat” girl, everyone has this concept that fat girls are wall flowers, or they’re “stupid” and always eating. I proved many people wrong. I went on to succeed, I made sure I got good grades or my ass would’ve been grass! I was a social butterfly and at times it got me in trouble. It was misconstrued as being fake instead of me wanting to socialise. I endured 5 years of taunting and cruel jokes, but it's only made me stronger. Now that I’m 18, I could care less what someone says or thinks of me. I’m fat, get over it!

The UK has a long way to go, as the most “obese” country in Europe, I don’t understand why it's so hard accept fat people, especially fat women. We are normal people, and deserve to be treated like human beings! I’ve learnt to accept who I am, but occasionally I have those “fat” days, but that’s okay because I always bounce back. And today, I am proud to say, that I'm still active, and my relationship with food has improved. Food is for nutrition, not comfort, I've finally learnt that. But the biggest lesson, I've learnt is that everyone is different! I think diversity, is a beautiful thing; because it would be extremely boring if we were all the same!

Share your story with me! I would love to hear your experiences!

LaCara,

A Little about moi!

So this post is about getting to know me better :)

I've always wanted to create a blog, but I was never truly inspired until I came across YFF (Young Fat & Fabulous), and from there I came across many other blogs that were created by beautiful curvaceous women. So I wanted to get on the band wagon lol! It's been fairly recent since I've decided to accept myself as I am, fat rolls and all lol! So when I saw other blogs praising curves I was instantly inspired to create my own blog to promote self acceptance and fashion. As a curvy girl, I've broken a lot of rules for "Fat Girls" for instance, the belief that big girls can't have a sense of style or be sociable etc. I enjoy surpassing people's expectations of me. I'm confident, I love to socialise, fashion fuels my passion for life, and I love to have a laugh! Oh and I absolutely adore art, I especially love to paint :).

So essentially this blog is another creative outlet for me, and hopefully as my blog grows I'll be able to learn a couple of tips and tricks myself.

I'm still trying to get a hang of this whole blogging thing. I am trying really hard to kick start this blog, as in posting pictures, and posting things people would be interested in etc. I am definitely trying to get more followers, so that hopefully they may spread the word about my blog lol. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know :). I will definitely post pictures of me soon xD
