Review : So Fabulous!

The lovely K&Co, were kind enough to sent me two items from the So Fabulous! range to review, and fabulous they are indeed! I chose the Embellished Neck Tunic and the Drapey Cover Up, which are now on sale at K&Co.

Embellished Neck Tunic

Sorry for the dodgy pic! I need a new camera :(

PROS : This tunic is made of a soft stretchy viscose material, and you can dress this top up or down, also the embellishment detail on the neckline is really eye catching. It has batwing sleeves which means you'll be able to move freely and stay cool. The fit is true to size and it also has an elasticated band at the end, so you can wear it long or short depending on your preference.

CONS : The embellishment makes this top really itchy/irritating. I don't know if it's me having a reaction, but it's really unpleasant. So I suggest wearing a tank top underneath to protect your chest.

OVERALL : 7/10 - Lovely top that is comfortable and great for the summer!

 

Drapey Cover Up

PROS : This cardigan is light weight, and made of a soft viscose material, which is perfect for summer if I want some coverage while staying cool. The colour is a lovely neutral tone which is on trend right now, and I love the tab details on the shoulders. The fit is pretty generous, and I would recommend sizing down because it's quite loose and flowy, unless you like the oversized look!

CONS : None!

OVERALL : 9/10 - I would definitely recommend the Drapey Cover Up, it's stylish and drapes beautifully!

OneStopPlus A/W 2011 Show....

OneStopPlus had their live stream fashion show today, and there was much anticipation to see to see the "Sultrous Garden" collection. Before the show even started, there were over 500 viewers, waiting, and socialising via the livechat box. I was able to get some insight of what was expected. Majority, were expecting more body conscious pieces, a diverse range of models, and a innovative and engaging show. However, when the show started, it became clear that it wasn't a "live runway"; in fact it was a pre-recorded show with the stunning plus-size model Robyn.

The music, theme, and tone, was fantastic! It was modern with a vintage twist, so I had high expectations for the clothes. The first few pieces caught my attention, like the electric blue thigh high split dress, the floral cape, and the purple sequin skirt, along with much more. I also loved the gold Grecian inspired accessories, and the long ruched leather gloves, they added the perfect touch to most of the outfits. I also adored, the color palette, rustic reds, deep purples, pops of green etc, which is bang, on trend for A/W 2011.

However, as the show progressed, there were some pieces that were not my forté. There was a lot of loose shapes, shimmer/sequins, velvet; which would've been nice, if had been featured in one or two outfits, not majority of the whole collection. I would've liked to seen more structure, innovative designs, and an actual live runway show.

In all honesty, the show was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be like last year, but with more edgier pieces, along with a diverse group of plus-size models. However, I did like the concept, and the fact that it was broadcast live in New York's Times Square. This being OneStopPlus first ever live stream, it was a trial and error, and they got it semi-right. They've taken on board all the feedback that they've recieved, and are already brainstorming for the next fashion week. Although the show wasn't perfect, I look forward to what OSP comes up with next!

Lizzie Miller : New Ambassador of OneStopPlus!

Today, plus-size model Lizzie Miller has been announced as the new OneStopPlus ambassador. Miller will establish a social networking presence, via Twitter, Facebook, and the OneStopPlus website. Through Lizzie's unique voice, she'll continue to help empower women, and share her top tips, along with her personal style. Lizzie will offer her style tips, and product picks in the quarterly OSP Mag, video posts, Q&A's with customers, and much more. The goal is to create an interactive virtual community, for fashionable plus-size women.

Lizzie Miller has recently become a plus-size industry staple, stemming from her famed nude photo in Glamour. The infamous picture, caused a stir by depicting a curvy woman exuding confidence in her body, catapulted Lizzie to the forefront of the growing plus-size industry. She also headlined the very first plus-size only runway show, produced by OneStopPlus, during NYFW in September 2010.

OneStopPlus at NYFW 2011 : A Start of a Revolution

With the success of their first fashion show last year at NYFW 2010, OneStopPlus is at it again; this time hosting their very first "revolutionary" virtual plus-size fashion show on February 17th at 1pm EST. The show will be broadcast globally in numerous countries, including : United States, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, and Sweden. In addition to the online show, the virtual plus-size runway show will broadcast live from a Jumbo-Tron in New York City's famed Times Square.

Hello Autumn....OOTD

Hello dolls!

October & Autumn, are two of my favorite things, I love how the leaves changes color, I love how the crisp morning air welcomes me in the morning, and I love how I get to wear layers! Now granted this outfit, isn't the most "exciting", but a lot of you do want me to start posting more OOTD's, so I thought why not begin today. :)

This outfit is pretty casual, and I decided to wear my floral dress (are florals still "in" lmao?) with my blue waterfall cardigan (I know, I've worn it before, but I love it!), it was slightly chilly, so today was perfect for layers.

Excuse the quality of the pictures, I still haven't brought a digital camera (anyone want to buy me one ;P) and also excuse my cheesy smile, I still need to work on my face poses lmao!

Today Simply Be chose their winner! Amy Sellu was chosen as the new face for Simply Be! The grand final took place today at Pure in Manchester with 16 girls vying for the top spot. They were introduced to the judges, had their make-up done and strutted their way through a catwalk tutorial with a professional tutor. Inspiration : Jill Scott

Jill Scott, is hands down one of my favorite artist, to her music, to her poetry, to her acting; she is one of the most talented individuals in the entertainment industry. With her sultry voice and voluptuous figure, she is a true inspiration to me. She has made a name for herself in the infamous "skinny" Hollywood, and keeps going from strength to strength. She recently was featured in "Why Did I Get Married Too" the sequel of "Why Did I Get Married", and did an outstanding performance. What I admire the most about Ms. Scott is that she stays true to who she is, she embraces her curves and is happy with herself. She proves that no matter what your size you can be happy and successful.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! Oh good news, I will soon be having regular OOTD's, I've found a "photographer" who is willing to shoot me (for free of course!), so I'm really excited to get the ball rolling :D

Inspiration : Tara Lynn

Tara Lynn is making a stamp in the modelling industry, with her beautiful features and curvaceous body she is breaking all the moulds. Tara is signed with Ford Models and was featured in V Magazine's “Size Issue” in April 2010. She also graced the cover and had a 20 page editorial feature in French “Elle”. Tara was recently featured in the London Times Fashion, she is 27 years old and her measurements are 38-34-46in, she is a true curvy inspiration, as most models are out of the business by 25. Tara is a true beauty, and I think we will definitely see bigger and brighter editorials from her!

Confidence and Self Acceptance : For You.

I’m a confident person, sometimes I have to fake it to make it, but overall I have confidence in myself. I learnt from an early age to be confident, it came naturally to me, but there were times when I didn’t feel confident, and that was because I started piling on the weight and as we all know people can be cruel. Living in England has taught me valuable life lessons, it broke me down and built up again into a stronger, and more confident woman than ever.


I think confidence is a major issue for women, but especially for plus-size women, because of the scrutiny we receive from society, and the feeling of rejection from acceptance. I know many plus-size teenagers, who have no confidence and extremely low self-esteem, and its sad because they shouldn’t feel bad about who they are and what they look like. If you don’t love yourself, no one else will. If you don’t like yourself, no one else will. If you are negative about yourself, you will attract negative people. These are the lessons I learnt well, and I’ve gone through it all. So my point is, you have to feel good about who you are, because no one else is going to feel good for you. You have to love yourself completely and accept who you are, because nobody else can be you. Being big or overweight, whatever you want to call it, does not define who you are as a person. Looks are only part of someone, it is not the most important thing. I’d take being a kind and having an amazing personality over aesthetic beauty any day.


It was hard accepting who I was, and what I looked like, so I took time away from people, and I took some “LaCara” time, just me, myself and I!

I soon began (quite quickly in fact), enjoying my own company, and I loved learning new things about myself, and I loved being “me”! When I came to terms of who I was, I began to notice the people around me change. I finally saw that I was surrounded by negative people, because I felt negative towards myself. Now that I’m positive and accept who I am, and I like what I see in the mirror, I now have genuine people around me. I feel confident, when I look in the mirror, and step outside to the world. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not always happy-go-lucky, I do have my moments; but I am who I am, and I’m not going to change for anyone but “LaCara”.


So if you do not love yourself COMPLETELY, I suggest taking some “you” time, figure out what you love, and what you don’t. Be your “own” best friend for awhile, and I guarantee you’ll start to see things differently.
