I'm thankful....

Happy Thanksgiving dolls! I hope you all have a lovely day, I know I will ;)

I'm thankful everyday, not just on Thanksgiving, it's a blessing that I've even made it this far. But today, I wanted to share with you, what I'm thankful for :

This year, I've truly been thankful for my family! My family and I have always been close, but this year we've formed such a unique bond, if they were to ever leave me I would be crushed. They have become my world, my everything! I think of them daily, they are my best friends, and although at times they drive me insane, I wouldn't change them for the world! I've finally realised this year how lucky I am to have them, so thank you God for grouping us together!

I'm thankful for my "soul searching" journey. These past two years, I've been searching for myself. I've changed and have learnt so many new things about myself, and I'm thankful I've had the time to find myself, and grow into the woman that I am today. When I look in the mirror now, I smile, I am thankful for being myself! I'm not perfect, I have flaws, I have my "off" days just like everybody else, but I accept that, and that's what makes me who I am. I now know myself, and I am content with who I am. I'm still on my journey, but instead of pushing it away like I did in the past, I now embrace it. Thank you God, for bringing me this far, and I know you'll continue to walk beside me.

Last, but certainly not least, I'm ever so thankful for my blog! My blog has been a huge part in my soul searching, and I'm so proud of myself for creating "Oh La La Curves". My baby (that's what I call my blog lmao #dontjudgeme) has come such a long way, and to be honest I'm surprised I'm still keeping this gig going! When I started my blog, I didn't expect to become so dedicated to it, now I can't see my life without it! I've met some amazing people, through blogging, and I feel proud to be associated with such inspirational people. All of you, have truly made this year special for me, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much for supporting me, and offering me motivation and inspiration.

Have a wonderful day, and even if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, just take a moment and think about what you're thankful for.

Lot's of Love,
LaCara

Disappointment Sucks....

On Saturday, I went to Lakeside, one of the biggest shopping centers in the UK that has over 250 stores. Out of those 250 stores, there is only 3 "plus-size" stores available (excluding the straight sized stores that carried plus-sizes!), Evans, Yours, and Ann Harvey. I didn't bother to go into Ann Harvey, because it's too expensive and old-fashioned for my tastes. So I was only left with two options, Evans and Yours.

Inspiration : Adele

With her curvy figure, stunning beauty, and soulful voice; it's easy to see why Adele just oozes 'sultriness'. The sultry songstress is 5'9 and between a size 14/16. Since her debut album, "19", Adele has received recognition both commercially and critically. The album debuted at number one, and has been certified platinum in the UK. Her career in the US was boosted by a viewer record breaking Saturday Night Live episode in late 2008.

What I admire most about Adele (besides her amazing voice) is her humbleness, she is very down-to-earth, and hasn't allowed the fame to change her, or allowed her size hold her back. I can't wait for the release of her new album, because she has such a special talent. She inspires curvy women, to follow their dreams, and be the very best that they can be.

Her new album "21" is set to be released January 24th 2011 (UK) and February 22nd 2011 (US/CAN).

Please help Kristie!

Please help Kristie Tunick, by re-posting this video and spreading the message around!  I know a lot of you have your own life to deal with (I do too) , but we can send out a prayer, a positive thought, or even make a donation, to those in need. Kristie, is a beautiful and strong woman who needs our help. Her insurance company, the doctors, all those who have the means to help her, have let her down tremendously. I know she's not the only one who suffers from MS,  but if we can get this video to be viral, and get the media's attention, we can make a difference. If this gets to the main stream media, not only will we be helping Kristie, but all of those who suffer from MS.

Let's make a difference! Spread the word!

Fashion Games...

Have you ever heard of "fashion games" or "dress up games"? You know the virtual doll, that you can dress up, create different outfits, do her make-up etc? Well if not, I'm going to tell you about it. Now before you laugh and say :

"Pshhh, I'm too old for childish games! Aren't you too old for these games?!"

Fashion games, can offer unique inspiration, and provide entertainment at the same time.

Granted, yes I'm 18, but my love for fashion is profound, so it's a win/win (not to mention, I get bored sometimes!). Also, I'm a visual person, so playing these games, actually help me to create a 'real-life' outfit. There are loads of sites out there that offer fashion games, but I usually just stick to my top 3, which are :

Roiworld - This fashion game website has always been my favorite, especially since Lifetime took over. It takes fashion games to the next level, you can dress up celebrities, create different outfits, and make-up looks. There is a wide variety of everything, available.

I-Dressup - Has a wide variety of games and categories, I particularly enjoy their 'Designer' section, they actually use the fashion pieces you see on the runway in their games, what fashionista could resist the temptation to play!

Dressup Games - Is a directory for fashion games, there are so many categories and games to choose from, so you'll be spoiled for choice.

Now, as in the "real fashion world", the "virtual" fashion world also lacks plus-size representation. However, I did manage to find one plus-size game, (which I'm totally in love with!) that is fashionable, and allows you to create endless combinations of outfits.

This game is fabulous! You won't be disappointed, give it a go!

Every Girl's Plus-Size Dress Up Game :

Fashion games, are really useful, especially if you are an inspiring stylist or you would like to improve your own style, these games can allow you to experiment freely and creatively. So go have some fashionable fun!

Inspiration : The Blogger Edition - Anika

Hello dolls! I hope everyone is having a fabulous day! :)

So I'm starting a feature series "Inspiration : The Blogger Edition", because I want the fashion industry to know about you! This series will showcase, your inspirations, your style, and your fashion tips!

So who better to start off with, than my dear friend and the amazing founder of Sweetfaced Style ?!

She is a Curvy lover, self-worth activistplayful, vulnerable, strong, and budding designer;

She is

1. What inspired your blog name?

When I first started my blog, I named it "Generous Style", 'generous' playing on both my size and my personality, but it didn't really feel right. I wanted something that was even more personal, more me, and when I learned that 'Anika' means 'sweet face' it clicked. I was shy about naming my blog "Sweetfaced Style" though, worrying that it might seem self-absorbed and conceited, but then I decided to trust that my readers would be able to see me and know that I am not a self-absorbed person. Too bad that I misspelled the name though LOL.

2. What inspired you to do a fashion blog?

It really seemed like the obvious choice because I am so passionate about fashion, and honestly feel that I have something to offer with my fashion. I have been playing around with my fashion for years, sewing my own clothes, and starting the blog just seemed like the next step. The blog is also about loving our selves just the way we are, sort of a self-esteem booster through a fashion blog.

3. What are 3 things that you love about yourself?

In terms of my personality they are: My sensitivity. My generosity. My sense of humour.

Physically my top 3 are: My eyes. My hourglass shape. The girls. LOL

4. What do you enjoy about fashion blogging?

Everything! I find it so inspiring, both enjoying other fashion blogs, and pushing the boundaries for my own fashion. I have blogged for ten months now, and I have learned so much and gotten even bolder with my fashion and self acceptance through blogging. It`s a blogging-blessing! :)

5. What is the one accessory you could not live without?

Do leopard-prints count? LOL. Right now it would be my grey watch that I love and think adds a touch of sporty-chic to my otherwise rather unpractical look. (I do have a sporty attitude though haha).

6. Who is your favorite model and why?

Can I get away with Nelson Mandela? I actually found this a hard question, I don`t really have take a great interest in fashion models, but after giving this some thought I would say the wonderful Sophie Dahl, especially in her curvier days. Beautiful!

7. Who is your style icon, and why?

My English grandmother Cynthia, hands down. This woman is all style, she is closer to 90 years old now, and still rocks her signature black and white fashion, short fabulous silvery hair, silver accessories and black cane to match. She wouldn't say so herself, but she is very elegant in a chic and unromantic way.

I remember Cynthia telling me about how she had struggled all her life to be even slimmer then she is, and how that had been such a waist when she could have spent her energy otherwise. That really stuck with me. So did the fact that for my 18th birthday she gave me the complete works of Jane Austen and a box of condoms. LOL.

As you understand, style and personality is very closely connected to me, be it Cynthia or anyone else who knows themselves and isn't afraid to show it.

8. How would you describe your style?

My style is very me. It is personal, it is one of the ways I express my self. I would call it bohemian romantic with a playful and edgy touch. Haha.

9. Name your favorite places to shop for clothes & accessories.

Ideally? By Malene Birger. I absolutely adore this Danish designer. The designs are so gorgeous and edgy, all prints, studs and sequins. Very inspiring!

Realistically? H&M! I always find current cuts and prints there, perfect starting points for me to make the clothes my own by reworking them. Also, the clothes are cheap but look really good when mixed right. I have to say that I only go to the straight-size sections though, sadly I don`t think the BIB line is exiting enough.

10. Share a fashion tip.

Know your shape!

It really is all about the shape, not size in terms of what suits us fashion wise. If I was 30 kilos lighter I would still wear the same shapes I do know. In fact, it was when this finally hit home with me that I decided to stop waiting and wanting to be thinand just get on with dressing up in colours and prints, finally having fun with my fashion! I don`t ever want to put my self down again for not finding clothes that don`t fit me, screw that. I am done shaming my self. Now I buy two dresses that don`t fit and make my own, and I bloody well wear white on bottom. Damn right!

Thank you so much Anika for taking part!

Look of the Day : Animal Print!

Hello dolls! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, and has had a pleasant day! :)

So I received an e-mail from a new reader, and she had ask if I could suggest or come up with an outfit for a semi-formal event, that incorporated animal print, I hesitated at first, because I've only had to dress myself, so to suggest an outfit for someone else......well it seemed daunting! However, I quickly got over my nervousness, and accepted the 'challenge', here is the final result :

Straight-Size Outfit :

River Island - Black Chiffon Blouson Sleeve Polo Top - £26.99
River Island - Beige Animal Print Skirt - £29.99
ASOS - Pleated Suedette Bow Lock Across Body Bag - £20.00
ASOS - Pumpkin Suede Pointed Court Shoes - £60.00
ASOS - Dogeared Triple Textured Long Pedant Karma Necklace - £59.00
ASOS - Vintage Style Intricately Engraved Bow Ring - £6.00
ASOS - French Connection Looped Tear Drop Earrings - £12.00

Total : £213.98

Now, I couldn't leave out my fellow curvy women, so I came up with the same outfit using Simply Be, and ASOS Curve. The only problem was Simply Be & ASOS Curve's pictures aren't Polyvore friendly, so excuse the organisation, I tried my best.

I used Simply Be's Tunic, because it was the best dupe I could find. The hem can easily be altered to make it shorter, so it will tuck into ASOS Curve's animal mini skirt effortlessly. Finally I paired up the accessories, that I used for the straight-size outfit to complete the look.

Plus-Size Outfit :

Simply Be - Sequin Cuff Tunic - £55.00
ASOS Curve - Exclusive Animal Print Mini Skirt - £20.00
ASOS - Pumpkin Suede Pointed Court Shoes - £60.00
ASOS - Pleated Suedette Bow Lock Across Body Bag - £20.00
ASOS - Dogeared Triple Textured Long Pendant Karma Necklace - £59.00
ASOS - French Connection Looped Tear Drop Earrings - £12.00
ASOS - Vintage Style Intricately Engraved Bow Ring - £6.00

Total : £232.00

For an added touch, you can add tights or leggings, depending on your preference. I also think a cape would compliment this outfit, not only will  it keep you warm, but it will also keep you on trend too.

What do you think?
