Simply Be : Modelling Competition Q & A

Hello dolls, I hope all of you are having a fabulous day, as I said in my previous post Simply Be was going to answer some of the questions that I had about their competition. Well today I am going to share this exclusive Q and A with you, and I will also be keeping my blog updated about this competition, so that's something to look out for ;)

Simply Be Q and A :

1.) What made Simply Be want to do this competition?

As you know, plus size is a hot topic these days. Everyone’s talking about it. Over the last couple of years, we’ve started to see plus size models on the catwalks and the covers – it seems curves are finally becoming the norm in the fashion world.

And as a plus size fashion retailer, we wanted to show our support for this movement, while giving our customers what they really want – curvy models they can relate to wearing the Simply Be collection.

2.) What is the goal or purpose of this competition?

On the one hand, we want to show women just how beautiful fuller figured women are – you won’t just meet the winner, we’ll be introducing our customers to all the finalists. It’s our way of showing that beauty comes in every shape and size.

And on the other hand, we wanted to give our customers what they want. Over the last couple of months, the plus size debate has raged on our Facebook page and our fans have shown a real interest in seeing the collection on curvier women. Naturally, we already use plus size models. But what the fashion industry sees as plus size and what our customers see as plus size can be two different things. So we want to find
someone that everyone can relate to.

3.) If this competition is successful, will there be more competitions like this?

It’s certainly something we’d consider. At the moment, we’re just focusing on this competition, but if our customers like it, if they want more of the same, then it might well become a regular thing.

4.) Is there any particular look that Simply Be is specifically looking for?

Not at all. This competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over who wears a size 14 or above. We don’t mind if you’re aged 20 or 50, blonde or brunette – there’s no particular look. It’s more about having a sparkle in your eye and smile on your face - though by all means, feel free to show us your pouts ;-)

5.) Do you think that plus size model's will soon be freely accepted on the mainstream catwalk?

That’s a tough one. There’s no doubt that plus size models are being seen more on the catwalks and we think this trend will continue in the future. With any luck, in five years time, no one will bat an eyelid at size 16 models on the catwalks.

But at Simply Be we believe in designing for curves. What works on a size 0 model won’t necessarily work on a size 16 one. So for plus size models to take their rightful place on the catwalks, designers need to cater for their curvier figure. Until they do that, they’re not really being accepted.

6.) Where does Simply Be see itself in 5 years time?

As you probably already know, we’re launching in the US this month. We’ve already crossed the pond and our plus size fashion collection is proving popular in Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and the Netherlands.

So in five years time, we want to be doing exactly what we’re doing now – but on a bigger scale! Giving full figured women on-trend options… designed for their figures… in a great size range. And the more women we can reach, the better – because every women deserves to have a gorgeous wardrobe that loves her curves.

Well there you have it ladies, you've heard it directly from the amazing Simply Be! If you have any questions, I'll gladly pass them along! So tell me your thoughts! Are you going to enter, and if so why?
